6th Most grape vines plus their fruit and even the tougher ornamental Glory Vines are covered in powdery mildew at present, due to the humidity we have been having. Even a few hot days won’t make it disappear.

13th Dean at Hawthorn reports that he’s pruned his ‘Ladyfinger’ grapevine as directed to short spurs and they vines have a good fruit set this year, but he’s troubled with grey fan shaped bracket fungus on the trunk of a valuable Walnut tree.

20th I had an enquiry from a Wendy in Blackwood about why her Philadelphus mexicanus is not flowering. She has used potash supplements and seaweed extracts in an attempt to foster flowering.

27th A reader in Linden Park wants to know how to revive her Fiddlewood that’s been in a pot of the past 20 years. I think consign it to the Burnside City Council’s green organics collection next week.
