I
had a letter from a bloke in Hawthorn last week about how he’s managed
to get possums out of his roof. Timely too since they notoriously move
indoors in this cold weather. He tells me that St Agnes Primary School has
been making and selling Possum Boxes to erect in your garden (ph 8263-3541
for $25.00). |

It’s now pretty safe to prune your fruit
trees, well at least the stone fruit trees and the grapevines, even if they
have a few leaves still hanging around.
Cut your prunings into short sections and you’ll get most of them into
your organic wheelie bin over the next month.

There
is a gardeners’ dilemma in this area right now about whether to prune
the roses or not. I fed Annie’s with a high potassium fruit and flower
set in April and some of the late flowering cultivars like ‘Shocking
Blue’ are still in full flower and 20 buds to come with healthy foliage
and showing no signs of leaf fall.

This
is a good time to check your potted plants. The deciduous plants can be
repotted using at least 50% new potting mixture and don’t be timid about
severing at least 30% of the old roots, but I stress this is recommended
for deciduous plants, but citrus!
