  • In the past week I’ve been in Sydney and Hobart and they don’t get much more rainfall than we do in Adelaide, but the big difference is that our evaporation rate is three times our rainfall, where as theirs are both about 1:1.
  • This brings home the huge need to mulch as our days warm up. That mulch layer really saves water, provides a cool root run, but it’s not nutrient!
  • Nutrient feeds your plants, but without mulch it’s a force feed time that leads to salt burn on leaves.
  • Mulching allows nutrient uptake by your roots over a longer period, without the top soil drying out.
  • In short that greatly increases the range of plants you can grow regardless of your soil type or expertise.
  • Travelling in spring to other climates always has its rewards. The gardener should always be on the lookout . Happy Looking.
