This time of the year as plants mostly slow their
growth, is often seen as not a good time to be making judgments about soil
conditions, since so many plants are about to shut down for winter and go
dormant. Wrong!

Two weeks ago I mentioned how the "Snail
Vine" Vigna carracalla did not set seed in Adelaide, well two
readers have got a small seed set, at Melrose Park and Clapham. Both in full
sun and not a regular event. Well done folks!

That
slow soaking rain last week was great to see at last, wasn’t it? Right
now would be an excellent time to add some organic pellets to perennial
sections of your garden. They will break down quickly and provide a little
nutrient before things really slow up down-under, in the soil zone.

there rages the perennial debate about which is the best way to control
them.
