With Bougainvillea going ballistic at present and many still in flower, its a real
dilemma as to when to prune, but by taking out the long canes that are not flowering
anyhow, you can reduce the vigour and the spread of these valuable summer flowering hedge
plants. |

Too much fruit on your trees at present and cant handle it? The State Information
Shop at 77 Grenfell Street has a handy booklet for $2 on how to dry fruit at home. It
could save you heaps and deprive the rats of a feast. Worth a try eh?

The northern Adelaide plains area grows some of the best Sweet Peas in Australia, so
dont miss out and order yours soon. Its not time to be planting them just yet
that can wait until March or April, but get your seed while you still have the pick of the
best cultivars.

With the tomato surplus upon us, if you are amongst the successful growers, its
worth remembering that you can preserve tomatoes without processing. Simply put three or
four in a freezer bag, seal and into the deep freeze. My wife Annie chops them roughly and
adds some diced spring onions, also abundant in our garden at present and were two
thirds on the way to a pasta sauce in mid winter.

Looking over my wife Annies cottage garden on the weekend (just
looking Annie, because Im not allowed to tough anything in there) I
noticed the enormous mass of gypsophila in flower and admired how useful it is dress up a
posy of flowers indoors.
They thrive on our local soils and the tiny white booms go on all
summer and it all resulted from a six cell seedling punnet for $2.50! Not too late to
plant them even now.
