5th Feb

‘Greenfingers’ here got taken to task for last week claiming that wife Annie, ‘roughly chopped surplus tomatoes mixed with spring onions and froze them’. Seems I was not observing the middle step of simmering until soft… very important Annie tells me.

The ‘Lisbon’ is our best lemon by far for this area and fruits and flowers for its second crop at the same time, which is no mean effort and our most popular orange in this area is the ‘Washington Navel’. They both need a feed now to set a good canopy of flower in a few months time for winter fruit set. Use a ‘balanced’ water-soluble citrus fertilizer.

19th Feb

As promised last week: Annie’s Garden Fresh Summer Pasta Sauce
1 finely chopped red onion
2 crushed cloves of Riverland garlic
1 finely chopped serrano chillis (Scoville 6)
1 tsp homemade chilli oil
6 medium tomatoes roughly chopped (skinned if you prefer)
