I noticed a few Wooly Bear Caterpillars around this
week, but probably not enough to get the Dipel™ out for just yet. At this
stage you can still squash them.

Everyone is pruning vines at present. Just a
word if you are new to pruning a vine on a pergola. Start at the trunk and
figure out what you want to retain. It’s useless and unproductive to start
at the tips.

Gardeners
are a conspiratorial lot. I planted some Youngberries down the side of the
house alongside of the rainwater tank and now Annie’s convinced that it’s
so I can eat them before anyone else knows they are ripe! Well folks they
grow better on rainwater, so that’s my excuse, it’s closer to the tank
and they will tolerate some shade too.

For
any organic garden produce to be marketed as such it needs accreditation
from one of several national bodies, but anyone can write an organic
gardening book, with no such appellation approval and as a consequence the
market is saturated with worthless dross purporting to be ‘organic’.
