4th Sept.

Now that your early Narcissus or Jonquils have finished flowering, it’s time to feed them, so that they flower in profusion next year. Using a watering can with 5 grams of a water-soluble fertiliser, like Aquasol™ or Thrive™ add a few drops of a wetting agent (but not household detergent) and water the foliage to run-off.

11th Sept.

With the soil so moist at present, these are the ideal conditions for establishing herbs and annual bedding plants. While the soil is a bit cold to get your petunias growing, they will make a good root run and develop as nice squat plants.

18th Sept.

Keep weeding those milk thistles out of your garden this week. They may seem benign but they harbour the leaf hopper that spreads various viruses into your vegetable garden, particularly "Big Bud" onto Tomatoes and Eggplant.

25th Sept.

With leaf-burst on many deciduous trees taking place at present it’s time to remove any Mistletoe that is evident. They appear as clusters of different shaped leaves in the canopy and many are evergreen, so easily detected at present. Common in Elms, Maples, Gums and Citrus in this area, as well as many other tree types.
