2nd Oct.

The moist conditions and mild nights interspersed with a few dewy nights has seen Powdery Mildew spread wildly over the past week. That’s the white powdery like substance on the leaves in case you are unfamiliar.

9th Oct.

Last week I advised about treating Powdery Mildew on your Roses, overlooked the best control was to plant new Roses where they get plenty of sunlight and air moving past them. Simple advice but frequently overlooked.

If you have been following my advice over the past few months you will have a healthy crop of tomato seedlings ready in 100mm (4") pots ready to be planted this week. Sunny position, no shade and leave some room between the neighbour’s fence and your nearest plant. Go for it!

23rd Oct.

With the citrus making good growth at present, it’s time to feed them unless you have already done so. I use a water-soluble citrus fertilizer, that is loaded with the minor trace elements, that citrus need. The organic only pellets or straight blood and bone only give you lush shiny leaves and do nothing for a good fruit set.

30th Oct.

After returning to our garden after three weeks away, it’s amazing how the weeds grow so well in your absence. The house sitter watered well. Nothing died. Not even the weeds and the blighters take advantage of it!
