I noticed that my liliums are budding right now and that they are now in need of a dose of iron chelates mixed with kelp extract to turn their slightly yellow buds, bright green and to ward off the odd hot day before they flower next month.

 

 

13th Nov.

 

The warm weather always brings on the bugs. Right now it seems whitefly are all the go. Tiny clouds of them rise when you disturb carrot leaves or any pumpkins or melon leaves and even stinging nettles

 


20th Nov.



The fruit on our fruit trees is swelling rapidly and some needs support pretty soon or branches will break. Apricots, Nectarines and Peaches are particularly laden this year. Of course you can thin the crop, but it’s hard to bring yourself to do this sometimes and on large trees not very practical either!




27th Nov.



One of the gardeners’ cruelest afflictions in this area has to be seasonal hayfever and it’s the wind pollinating plants that are the biggest villains: Cupressus, Pines, including Callitris the "Native Pine", Silver Birch, Ash, Plane, Elm, Privet, most Wattles, dryland Eucalypts, Melaleucas, Callistemon, Sheoaks and of course "Salvation Jane".
