Expect rain and humidity this monthy, with that we can expect outbreaks of fungal disease over the next few weeks. If you have prized plants such as roses that you aim to protect, you will need a rotation of at least three sprays. Use water soluble Sulfine, followed by Kocide™ and then BaycorŽ or Bordeaux mix. That way the fungi do not mutate to resist the spray.

With all the rain, you will need to lightly scarify the soil around newly planted vegetable seedlings, so they don't get too water-logged. For older plants it's not the same trauma, but seedlings are more dependent on a light soil.

While it's a great time to be establishing Basil of all sorts for summer cooking and salad days, remember they all need lots of sun and the warmest spot you can offer them. I'd even go so far as to say the Thai or Sacred Basil. is best grown in a terra cotta pot in the warmest part of your patio.

When cutting roses for cut flowers in doors over the next few weeks remember to cut the stems back to a point where they are likely to sprout out and create yet more long stemmed roses for you. feed them with enriched pellets too.
