Hope you had a Merry Christmas and don’t forget to feed the Christmas tree if you have a live tree.

My naughty Jack Russell Terrier pulled a very healthy and fully fruiting Thai Chilli plant from its pot last night and dragged it all around the garden until I retrieved it. Now that really has got me scratching my head. Did he try eating one, because he seems to try eating everything else in the garden? Or is it that he's just an 18 month old delinquent. Any JRT wisdom to impart please?

Speaking of destruction, you'll have noticed how popular Gerberas are as cut flowers at this time of the festive season, but don't be tempted to use those floral extenders in their vase water, or you will discover that they don't like the stuff.

If you have a grape vine that's grown very densely over your pergola and is currently carrying a lot of fruit, you may need to thin the canopy at its thickest or the fruit will not ripen properly. Dense shade does nothing to the taste of grapes unfortunately.
